Relaxation in The Development of the Social Self Environment


There are several aspects to our social self-development that we have to go through. These are all-important on the road to better social interaction and are essential to our progression in life happily. We will be able to interact better on the job, make friends and have better relationships overall with the people that we meet. Social skills come easily to some but many of us have to work at it. If we were not lucky enough to have the proper learning environment when we were young, to develop social skills, then we will have to go through the process the hard way. This entails committing to improving our social self by completing this development we.


One of the keys to the development of the social self is the ability to relax. Relaxation is a key component as it affects the behavior that you portray to the outside world. It is important that you are able to relax and interact with people. If not you will portray signs of anxiety and nervousness that are transmitted to the outside world. These can be manifested both emotionally and physically and can hinder the process of forming relationships with people. In my experience when you are anxious you are not able to speak or listen to conversations effectively and this means that you will not be able to draw the attention of the person that you are dealing with and develop a rapport. If you are able to relax you will see instant results. People can detect when you are at ease and are often drawn to this behavior.


Another essential factor to work on in the process of developing your social self is to let other know that you are capable of listening. You have to learn to listen and transfer this knowledge to the other individual. This means that you have to start paying attention to the conversation and letting the other person know through listening reactions and the appropriate questions that you are aware of what is being said. You may feed back some of what you heard or even refer back to comments later on. This is essential in making someone feel better and also in developing socially. Most people will feel appreciated by persons listening to them and showing an interest in their lives and thoughts. Physical stillness and being attentive are great when combined with eye contact transfers to the person that you are conversing with that you care about what they are saying. You can make many fast friends in this fashion and these people will continue to appreciate and listen to you as well.


Going hand in hand with listening is empathy to the other persons situation. Many persons in the social setting are seeking some kind of assurance. This means they may pour out their problems to you or they may even tell you about interesting points in their lives. When you are able to listen and react with empathy they feel better. This point also helps you, as you are able to alleviate your social anxiety by focusing on the individual. You are less self-conscious and are able to attain a comfort level while making the other individual feel interesting.


Social self-development is important and we have to realize its importance in our lives. We have to learn to interact with others well as in order to progress in life we will be called upon to socialize both in our personal lives as well as in our careers. Relating to people well can make your life easier and more pleasant. You will handle situations better and rise to the occasion when needed without feeling nervous or anxious.
